Ballooning Weather

At the urging of FAA Inspector Doug Glick, local Atlanta balloonist Jeff Morgan called for an organizational meeting to be held in December 1978. The initial meeting had 35 people in attendance to discuss founding of a new balloon club. After much discussion and selection of the Georgia Balloon Association name, an inaugural officer corps of Jeff Morgan, President, Neal Boortz, Vice President, Lynn Wolverton, Treasurer, and Martha Smith Secretary were elected.

 

The association developed a policy statement to guide the mission of the club.

• Promote, develop and aid in the art and science of ballooning; supervise and organize balloon competitions, in accordance with regulations of the Balloon Federation of America, Inc. Advise federal, state and local government agencies on matters of aviation regulations, certification and safety of hot air and gas balloons and balloonists.
   

• Foster, promote and engage in balloon aeronautical safety and education, service as a medium through which individuals may act together to contribute to the enjoyment, safety and public acceptance of sport ballooning. Aid in the development and the use of ballooning in commercial activities.
   

• Foster national or international amateur sports competition. Foster the pleasure, recreation or other non-profit making purposes for the benefit of members in promoting ballooning.
   

• The association is open to individuals interested in ballooning as pilots, crews or spectators.
